QUESTION: How do I make homegrown tomatoes sweeter?

ANSWER: To grow the sweetest possible homegrown tomatoes, first start out with a variety that is known for its sweetness. Smaller tomatoes are often sweeter than larger types. Also select a type of tomato plant that is well suited to your region.

Start plants a little early when possible so that they have plenty of time to ripen to their sweetest potential. Tomatoes that have ripened on the vine will be sweeter than those that ripen on the kitchen counter.
