The Fiskars Power Lever 28 Inch Bypass Loppers Model 9132 is a great low budget set of loppers. I used them to prune the flowering plum trees that line my driveway. These trees are gorgeous and have medium growth rate, but when the limbs are wet they hang low over the drive and really get in the way.

Flowering plum trees this size have a lot of different limb sizes and these Fiskar loppers made the job easier than I thought. Honestly, these will get the job done and it was worth picking up a new pair to replace my ancient, dull loppers. These loppers are stocked at the big box stores and run under 25 dollars. Don’t miss our product review of the Blue Hawk loppers and compare them to the Fiskars loppers.

Here are the positives and negatives I had with these Fiskars loppers:

Positives about the Fiskars Power Lever 28 Inch Bypass Loppers:

The length of the handles are way better than using hand pruners for this size of a job. With a 28” length, it was easy to reach into the tree and prune back the limbs. Also, when reaching in that distance, it is easy to lose some of your functional arm strength since pruning away from your body. The power-lever mechanism in these loppers made cutting through the limbs easy, and my arms didn’t get tired. You can prune pretty significant limbs, with the 1 5/8 inch cutting capacity, and the power-lever design made a big difference.

The Lifetime Warranty was also a big selling point with me. It reassures me they are made with the intention of lasting and I can have these a while. With the low price, I’m not sure I’d ever utilize the warranty and may be more of a hassle, but it does give the sense these are quality loppers.

Negatives about the Fiskars Power Lever 28 Inch Bypass Loppers:

While the 28-inch reach was crucial to most of the pruning of the flowering plum trees, I also could have used long handled pruners. I had to stand in the bed of a truck to get some of the higher limbs and that slowed the job down a little. Something like these Bond 8338 1 ½ Inch Telescopic Loppers next time to get to the top of the trees might make it onto my wish list.

Overall, these are really good loppers. They are easy to use and a great price. The power-lever mechanism made them easy to cut all limb sizes and I could finish the job without resting my arms. The steel blades should stay sharp for a few seasons and the non-stick coating on them helped make a smooth cut.
